FIREWATCH/LABORER
SALARY RANGE: $17.75 -$20.00
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Firewatch/Laborer is an
entry level position that provides needed support to maintain cleanliness, and
provide fire watch services aboard vessels in both the yard and any area where
work is performed. Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments
and will expose the Firewatch/Laborer to variable and adverse weather
conditions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / DUTIES
§ Extinguishes
fires as needed as per training provided
§ Observes
hot work to ensure area remains free of obstacles and hazardous materials as
per training provided
§ Cleans
vessels, piers, shop premises, parking lot, dry docks, and all work areas using
broom as directed by supervisor
§ Removes
paint and scale from ships metal surfaces, using hand or powered wired brushes
or similar tools
§ Conveys
material and tools to work site
§ Able
to identify hazardous materials and working conditions and apply proper safety
precautions and PPE required for each
§ Collects
and disposes trash in accordance with local and state laws
§ Run
lines and leads for specific trades assigned to
§ Setup
equipment and machines as needed per trade
§ Loads
vehicles using hand truck or dolly
§
Must adhere to a promote ALL company safety
policies. Wear all required PPE when in Production areas and promote a clean
and safe work environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The Firewatch/Laborer must be
able to meet and successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The
position is active and requires extensive standing, walking, sitting, bending,
kneeling, stooping, crawling, climbing, and crouching. Additional demands are
listed below:
§ Able
to climb ladders and work off scaffolding
§ Able
to lift, carry, or push up to 50lbs. throughout the shift (including overtime)
§ Exposure
to loud noises, vibrations, fumes, & airborne particles. This position will
require continuous use of ear protection, eye protection and other safety
equipment.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS
§ Must
be able to evaluate the use of various resources and make knowledgeable
decisions regarding safety and company procedures and policies
§ Able
to operate Sawzall, 4” & 7” grinders, and various other tools
§ Working
knowledge of SDS, Flash Points, and explosive limits for each hazardous
material being used
